When a TikTok download fails, most of the time the fix is straightforward. This guide explains why downloads fail and how to resolve each issue.

Error types and what they mean

"Video not found" or "Video unavailable"

This means the video has been deleted, made private, or the URL does not point to a valid video. Go back to TikTok, find the video, and copy a fresh link. If the video no longer appears on TikTok, it cannot be downloaded by any tool.

"Invalid URL" or "Failed to fetch"

The URL you pasted is not in the correct format. TikTok URLs should look like https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/1234567890 or https://vm.tiktok.com/xxxxxx. If you pasted a share text or a truncated link, copy the full URL again.

"Download timed out"

The server took too long to respond. This is usually a network issue on your end or a temporary problem with TikTok's servers. Check your connection and try again.

No error but nothing happens

This is typically caused by a browser extension or content blocker blocking the download. Try incognito mode or disable your ad blocker temporarily.

Step-by-step fix

  1. Copy a fresh link — open TikTok, find the video, tap Share, and copy the link again.
  2. Paste and download — paste the link into TikItDown and click Download.
  3. Check for errors — if you see an error message, match it to one of the types above.
  4. Try incognito mode — open a private window and repeat the process.
  5. Check your network — switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to rule out connection issues.
  6. Try a different browser — if Chrome fails, try Edge or Firefox.

Network issues

If your internet connection is unstable, downloads may fail mid-transfer. Signs of a network problem include:

Switch to a more stable connection, or try downloading from a different network entirely.

Server issues

Occasionally, TikTok's servers may be experiencing high traffic or maintenance. In this case, the download may fail even though everything on your end is working correctly. Wait a few minutes and try again. Server-side issues are temporary and usually resolve quickly.
